Voice Lessons in Port Charlotte
Do you want to have the singing voice you’ve always wished for? Want to sing with, power, passion and confidence? No matter what ‘voice’ has been bestowed upon you, it is essential that you learn the mechanics and reasons behind singing. Singing is primarily controlled by the inhalation and exhalation of breath over the singing organs. Without proper, conscious management of the breath, then you would not properly learn how to sing.
Vocal chords work together to vibrate at different speeds in order for your voice reaches certain sounds. When you begin attempting to go into different ranges, or make different pitches, your vocal chords stretch to accommodate. Now, you don’t need to go out and run ten miles a day, but it is necessary for you to gain control over your breathing, and that requires control over your muscles. Through breathing exercises and practice, you will be able to hone your skills so that you will eventually be able to control and pinpoint all the muscles that you are using while you sing.
Regular voice lessons and practice sessions help students develop advanced levels of concentration, determination, self-discipline and responsibility to regularly practice and work at skills to reach near and far-distant goals. These are the rare personality traits that more than any else will ensure success in all other areas of life.
Voice lessons also build self-esteem. In addition to the morale that the student gains from working diligently at vocal skills and succeeding, the positive individual attention given in private and small-group lessons and practice sessions fosters self-esteem and self-worth in the student by showing them that they are worthy of personal attention and that others believe in their success.
Learning to sing opens a new and deeply powerful medium of emotional education and expression as the student learns to “give voice” to the emotions of the composers and their songs. When the student participates in the production of quality music and really understands and connects with it, the intellect and the emotion are profoundly stimulated and the student comes away from the experience with an enriched and more meaningful life.
Sharon A. Ponte has been teaching voice and piano lessons since 1997. In that time, countless aspiring musicians have come through her door, learning the art of singing and playing. Sharon’s teaching philosophy is simple; “It should be fun. It should always be positive” and most importantly “I haven’t failed in fourteen years to teach someone and I’m not going to start now!” Sharon’s students have many opportunities to perform throughout the community. There are several recitals a year, such as Sharon’s Idol Contests, Summer Show-offs, and even Christmas performances at local retirement homes. “The only way to get over stage fright is to perform….and perform….and perform….” Sharon is also the Music Director for Edison College. Her credits include The Wedding Singer, Aida, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Curtains the Musical, and Hairspray.
